To Wii or not to Wii

I’m trying to figure out if getting a Wii for my office is a good idea. I do work in an office of high stress and a lot of people sitting in chairs most of the day. I have been thinking about it for awhile, but cant’ decide if this is going to turn into pure disaster – fighting, mindless video games, and neglect of work.
My original thought was it would get people up and moving during their lunch – but what if everyone wants to bowl, practice their standing bow, or Dance Dance Revolution from 12 – 2? Is this going to turn into signup sheets and hiding controllers?
I also considered “Walking Wednesdays” where we could walk to a restaurants that is a healthy walk away, have a healthy lunch, then walk back. The problem? Most of the restaurants are either very close or kinda far away. I don’t want to discourage people right off the bat. I may, on my drive home tonight, drive the route so I can say “Hey it’s only .5 miles”. I think it might be more like 1 mile – which I am up to do – but I might end up doing it alone after the first Wednesday – ha ha! I may try and figure out a round-about way to get to someplace closer. Maybe that would work.
There are a lot of people at my work who have really started talking about fitness. I have a bunch of people signed up for Color Me Rad. There are a couple other 5k’s we are trying to organize and someone else is organizing The Polar Plunge. People are getting trainers, joining gyms, and talking about working out – I want to keep the momentum going!
What’s going on at your work? What do you do at lunch? Do you sit at your desk and have your sandwich and troll the internet? I’ve always needed to get out of the office. For me that usually means eating out – which I know isn’t good for me either. It costs too much money and most of the time the choices you get at lunch are not really healthy. I do live really close to work and it makes so much more sense to get out of the building that way – but I am really a victim of peer pressure. I also really like having company at lunch. I’ve never been a person who likes eating alone. I can’t even remember the last time I ate at a restaurant alone.
I have friends who work at a company that gave out pedometers for all their employees and had a contest for the people with the highest step counts. I think this is a great idea – everyone loves a little healthy competition in the work place. Does your company encourage healthy living? I’ll take any and all suggestions. Fitness is a lifestyle and since you spend at least 9 hours at work you need to incorporate exercise into your whole day – not just the hour or two you spend at they gym.
If you are reading this at work – stop reading, get up, and get moving!

I played my sister Jessica’s Xbox Kinect and let me tell you I was SORE the next day after playing fruit ninja for about a 1/2 hour. I would recommend it much more than the wii for getting more of a work out.
