A Rant…Finally…

For those of you who know me you will be relieved to know that this is it – the ranting is here. I have finally gotten to my breaking point. I can stay quiet no longer.
So, I’m at the gym last night and after doing several super-sets and some ab work I hit the treadmill. As I have previously posted I am a TV watcher on the cardio machines. I think it makes the time go faster than with listening to music. So, I’m about 15 minutes into my workout and two people get on right next to me.
Now I know I have hyper-sensitive hearing. I hear everything at almost the same level – I had decided a few years ago that this is because I was raised by Deaf parents and had my hearing utilized at all the time. I can hear people whisper in the next room and a repetitive tap will all but make me come out of my skin. If you’ve ever been to the movies with me…no bueno. I can hear the people talking 5 rows away – it makes me see red – SHUT UP I’M TRYING TO WATCH THE MOVIE! I digress…but I bet you can see where this is going.
I listen to music most of the time at the gym to block out not only the pumped in music but also the conversations everyone else is having just because I find it so distracting. I mean I’ll listen to your whole story about your divorce or how crazy your girlfriend is if you want me to hear it. So when these two get on the treadmill next to me and start a conversation I find it mildly annoying. I turn up the volume and, I figure, they will run out of breath soon and I’ll be back to the hum of the machine. Nope! These two not only keep talking but I believe they must be hard of hearing because they are literally screaming at each other. I know it is loud at the gym but come on!
Here I am on an 11 incline sweating my tookus off and these two fools are not only talking but laughing.
I really don’t mean to judge – I know everyone is on their own path. But, if you can carry on a full 30 minute conversation, laughing, and even making wild hand gestures – you’re doing it wrong.
Increase your speed and start working out folks.
