Water Water Everywhere but How Much Do I Drink?

We always hear “drink more water”, “drink 8 glasses of water a day”, or even “drink a gallon of water a day”. While those statements are somewhat accurate, trying to figure out how big those glasses should be or how much is more can be confusing.

Well good news there is actually a calculation based on your body weight. Which makes sense considering our bodies should be anywhere from 60 – 75% water. So,everyone’s water intake should be different. Also, interesting to note that the more overweight you are the less % of water your body contains. Which is why drinking water is such an important part of any diet or exercise plan.

Ok here goes. Take your current body weight and multiply by 2/3 or for those who failed at fractions – your weight x .67. Easier with a calculator.

120 pounds 80 ounces
130 pounds 87 ounces
140 pounds 94 ounces
150 pounds 100 ounces
160 pounds 107 ounces

180 pounds 121 ounces
190 pounds 127 ounces
200 pounds 134 ounces
210 pounds 141 ounces
220 pounds 148 ounces
230 pounds 154 ounces
240 pounds 161 ounces
250 pounds 168 ounces

If you’re drinking enough water then this chart will also make much more sense. Just remember some vitamins, minerals, or supplements can change the color of your urine.

I know it seems daunting at first but also remember the more water you drink the less room you will have for soda or coffee. You’ll also feel fuller faster and all that running to the restroom is also exercise 😜
