At just before 2PM today EST Diana Nyad became the first person to swim the 110 miles from Cuba to the Keys without a shark cage. She started in Cuba on Saturday and swam for 53 hours.
Her website calls this swim “Extreme Dream”. In her previous attempts she was derailed due to jellyfish stings, thunderstorms, circling sharks, and boat problems from her support team.
Saturday she made another attempt and won! What we all should know about winning is that it leaves a wake of failures behind. If you’re not willing to fail then you won’t win.
“After her historic swim, Nyad spoke to reporters and said she got three messages. ‘One is we should never ever give up. Two is you never are too old to chase your dreams. Three is it looks like a solitary sport, but it’s a team,’ she said.”
This was Diana’s fifth attempt to make this journey, the first was in 1978.
After 35 years she has achieved her goal.
Diana Nyad is 64 years old.

I read this story…very inspirational. She never gave up on her dream….we could all learn from this.
